In the old town centre of Kranj, numerous archaeological investigations of past settlement remains have been carried out in recent decades during infrastructure and restoration works under the authority of the Municipality of Kranj, as well as in several privately owned houses.
The exhibition presents a selection of finds from ten locations along Tomšičeva Street, where research between 1989 and 2009 was conducted by the archaeologists Dr Milan Sagadin, MA Draško Josipovič, and Dr Rafko Urankar.
The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the uncovered material culture of past periods. Short summaries of the field research results provide only basic information about the original context of the objects. The selection of exhibits was largely determined by their state of preservation. Finds from all periods are included, from prehistory to the present day. Due to the quantity and diversity of the material, the exhibits are identified and presented with varying levels of detail.
In the first room, selected objects are highlighted, while in the remaining rooms the finds are presented according to the excavation sites.
